Barbara Rotering, born in Recklinghausen, studied music (choir conducting under Heinz Hennig) and Germanistic in Hanover. In addition to participating in various master classes she has been taking private singing tuition in Basel since 1999 under Evelyn Tubb and at the same time also with Peter Sefcik in Hanover/Munich. She is currently acquiring additional impulses from Emma Kirkby.
Since 1996 Barbara Rotering has been engaged by the Knabenchor Hannover as performing employee and voice production trainer. Part of her work involves the preparation and training of the boy soloists (e. g. for René Jacobs, Christoph Eschenbach, Konrad Junghänel, Alan Gilbert, Stefan Parkman), as well as for the "Knabenterzett" in Mozart's "Zauberflöte" for the opera house Hanover.
In addition to these activities she conducts the "Chor der Emmauskirche Langenhagen".
Since 1997 she has devoted herself very intensively to Ancient Music.

In connection with this involvement she has also initiated the International week for Ancient Music in Hanover; here she took over the function of artistic director and at the same time the assistance in the singing masterclass (Tubb/Rooley).
As a soprano she focuses her singing activities on the performance of baroque oratorio literature.
On several occasions she has performed as soloist with the Knabenchor Hannover, e. g. at the Festival Mitte Europa.
Barbara Rotering has given concerts as soprano and conductor with wellknown ensembles such as e. g. Musica Alta Ripa, Hannoversche Hofkapelle, Barockensemble L'Arco, Ensemble Aperto, Johann Rosenmüller-Ensemble and Concerto Palatino.
She performed with Emma Kirkby, Jakob Lindberg, Evelyn Tubb, Anthony Rooley and Michael Fields p. e.
